Sculpture repair

These old lead sculptures have a common issue. They have steel or iron rods inserted to give additional structural strength. The problem is that over time, the metal rusts and massively expands, often leading to significant damage by splitting. Once water enters, it becomes a runaway problem.

But a repair is often achievable by cutting the lead back to a clean surface, then filling by welding the gap, and filing and polishing.
